Danny Ings

Southampton have scored in each of their last fifteen home games, and if that run is to continue, there is a rather large chance that Danny Ings will have something to do with it.

Replacing injured Obafemi at Craven Cottage, the former Burnley striker went through one on one with the goalkeeper on two separate occasions, and will count himself unlucky not to get an assist in the game after setting up Shane Long just outside the six-yard box.

Despite not converting those chances, the Saints looked like a much better team attacking the oppositions net in the twenty eight minutes that he was on the pitch, and could have run riot if not for some strong saves from Fulham shot stopper Marek Rodak.

In Southampton’s pressing system, Ings is the focal point and is the most likely out of all the Saints players to be given a golden chance in front of goal if Manchester United are forced into a mistake. As seen through his pre-season goal against Preston and his only league goal so far against former side Liverpool, Ings works tirelessly off the ball, and has really bought in to Ralph Hasenhutt’s style of play.

Combined with this, Jordan Ayew’s goal last weekend shows that the centre back partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf has clearly not been perfected, meaning that Danny Ings could profit from their lack of game time together and feed off of the space that could be left open.

At just £6.0 and both a goal and an assist to his name this season, the man £2.7m cheaper than Marcus Rashford could be a much more viable option for what could be a similar point output.
