A Moussa Djenepo strike and a VAR over-turn secure all three points for Southampton at Bramall Lane.

Saints continue to build a solid foundation to their Premier League campaign as this marks the second top-flight away victory on the bounce. SFC have now kept three away clean sheets in a row. The league and cup wins equal a record set back in 1986.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men were involved in a hard-fought contest with both sides finding themselves on the end of golden opportunities. Chief among them was a blistering shot from Che Adams which struck the base of the post, while Angus Gunn smartly denied United’s David McGoldrick one-on-one.

Although Southampton didn’t have it all their own way, the technical Proess of Sofiane Boufal and Moussa Djenepo proved to be the difference maker. The two attackers were a constant thorn in the Blades’ side, who struggled to deal with their trickery all afternoon.

The hosts thought they had a valuable second half lead as Oliver McBurnie turned the ball home off a free kick delivery. Unfortunately for the Yorkshire outfit Video Assistant Referee, John Brooks spotted an offside.

SFC’s cause was further aided as substitute and former Saint Billy Sharp was dismissed for a high boot on Stuart Armstrong.

With seven points already on the board this season things appear to be shaping up rather nicely for the Saints. Here are the three key takeaways from Southampton’s 0-1  victory over Sheffield United.
