Simple opener hands Bournemouth the initiative

As Bournemouth won a 10th minute corner, Sky Sports posted a graphic onto the television screens in England that showed the Cherries as one of the most effective teams at scoring set-pieces in the Premier League.

Saints would have been well aware that giving the visitors a lead from something as simple as a set-piece could be fatal, and this duly happened in the next action.

As Diego Rico swung in his corner, Nathan Ake evaded the attempts to block his run to the ball to tower over Kevin Danso and plant his header past Angus Gunn.

From that moment on, Saints were up against it and they never really recovered.
