Saints 2-0 Portsmouth, 2003/04 Carling Cup

Saints reached the Quarter-Finals of the League Cup with a comfortable win over their rivals at St Mary’s.

As the season reached early December, a double from Saints talisman James Beattie proved enough to secure the win and set up a meeting with Bolton Wanderers in the next round.

The second goal came when Pompey captain Arjan De Zeeuw was sent off for hauling down Beattie in the penalty area – the striker then doubling the lead with the resulting spot-kick.
