Southampton managed a point against Wolverhampton on Saturday thanks to another Danny Ings goal coming from a mistake from the other team.

It was not the prettiest match on Saturday but it is a result most Saint Supporters will take after a couple defeats in a row. The team, did not play their best, but they did look better than they have and this is a performance the team can build off of going into the Leicester match.

With the game done we can look at the ratings for the players and the manager and see who stood out the most.

Managers, Goalkeeper, and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl – Manager: 6.5

The Austrian reverted back to a 3 in the back formation and it worked decently. Wolves, only managed a total of 4 shots in the game and the only one that went in was a penalty. Hasenhuttl, must have used the international break to drill in discipline to the players and it showed. Unfortunately, a penalty was still conceded and another 2 points dropped from a winning position.

His subs also came a little late which has seemed to be a recurring issue with him.

Angus Gunn – Goalkeeper: 6.0

Gunn, really did not have much to do on Saturday. The only shot on target was the penalty and he failed to keep that out of the back of the net. He was very quick to come off his line and it nearly cost him several times and something that must make Ralph furious. He maintains his spot in the starting XI for now but it feels like McCarthy could feature soon.

Jannik Vestergaard – Defender: 6.5

The Danish international had a very average performance on Saturday. No huge mistakes that cost the side but did not do anything to really help the team either. It is always a positive when a Southampton CB does not make a head scratching error they seem so prone to doing.

Maya Yoshida – Defender: 6.5

Yoshida, was his typical self on Saturday and continues to be one of the more consistent players in the squad. He does nothing flashy but he does all of the dirty work and does it so well.

Jan Bednarek – Defender: 7.0

Bednarek, was probably the best defender on the pitch for Saints on Saturday and bounces back after a couple of shaky performances against Bournemouth and Chelsea. He played for Poland over the international break and probably regained some of his confidence and it showed in this match. Ralph will need more performances like this out of the Pole.
