Shilton started his career with Leicester and made his league debut for the Foxes at the tender age of 16.
He went on to make 286 league appearances for the club and even scored a goal in eight years.
Spells with Stoke City and with Nottingham Forest – where he won the First Division and two European Cups – came before he joined Saints in 1982.
He played 188 times in five years on the South Coast and played over 1000 games in his illustrious career.
