Manchester City 2-1 Southampton: Premier League – Three Key Moments
By Joe Mcindoe
Southampton impressed despite a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City and, although goals from Sergio Aguero and Kyle Walker took all three points for the Citizens, they were forced to fight to the last.
In spite of the loss, the SFC side put in strong and determined performances across the pitch. In an uncharacteristic change the Saints defence was disciplined, proactive in attacking the ball, and alert to potential dangers. That tireless effort ensured that City found it very difficult to gain clear-cut opportunities, as their star men were either crowded out of possession, intercepted, or simply blocked.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men gained an early reward for their tireless efforts as James Ward Prowse capitalized on a loose ball and bundled it passed Ederson.
As the back line worked to stifle the blues attacking threat, players like Nathan Redmond continually proved to be an excellent escape route for his team. Although a shock result looked to be on the cards for much of the match, small mistakes and the opposition’s quality snatched the points away.
The performance marks a rare occasion the South coast side can feel proud im defeat. After conceding nine in the last Premier League outing, a showing of determination, and commitment, will go a long way towards mending bridges with fans.
Although the club remain in the relegation zone, performances like the one displayed in Manchester suggest Southampton can stay in the top-flight.
Here are the three key moments that impacted the course of Manchester city 2 Southampton 1.
