As Southampton’s players looked dejectedly to the skies at full time on Saturday, there was an air of resignation felt around the ground.

Despite Everton coming into the match at St Mary’s in indifferent form, it was a familiar tale as the visitors waltzed away with the three points. Goals from Tom Davies and Richarlison were sufficient for the Toffees to prevail, despite Danny Ings’ second half finish.

As the spotlight turns its fierce gaze on Ralph Hasenhuttl, questions are rapidly mounting for all associated with the club following a series of abject performances.

With the fans’ ire also directing itself toward the club’s owners, there is a sense that this may finally be the season where Southampton return to the second flight of English football.
