Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8

Chose a system that gave his side solidity and put players in preferred positions. Get it right against Watford and Norwich and we’ll have a chance to get out of our mess.

Alex McCarthy, Goalkeeper – 7

One fantastic save to deny Aubameyang and some crosses claimed well to halt Arsenal pressure. Much more confident here and must continue.

Cedric Soares, Right-Back – 4

Doesn’t look 100% interested in playing for the club anymore with his contract up at the end of the season. Passing not great overall, and a rush of blood to the head saw him unable to give Obafemi a tap in to an open goal.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 7

Battled away all afternoon and produced some good blocks. Also took a cross to the face that saw him needing treatment.

Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 7

Put his body on the line and has really stepped up in a time of need for Saints.

Ryan Bertrand, Left-Back – 6

A decent showing when going forward and quick thinking for Ings’ opener, but switched off for Arsenal’s late equaliser to leave Lacazette unmarked.
