Southampton stun St Mary’s to defeat Watford 2-1.

Goals from Danny Ings and James Ward Prowse provided the side with a vital three points and their first home win of the season.

The result sees the Saints stay in the hunt for safety. The club is now just two points from a secure spot.

The match had looked to be going in a typically dour fashion as Watford took an early lead through Ismaila Sarr. The forward was allowed to profit from unsurprisingly lacks defensive work.

Despite a slow start the home side rallied in the second half to turn things around. Danny Ings converted from close range, while James Ward Prowse hit a fantastic free kick into the back of the net.

The result not only brings much-needed points, but hopefully a renewed sense of optimism for supporters. Fans loudly showed their disapproval at the break but were keen to show their appreciation as Saints upped the intensity in the second half.

Sit back relax and otherwise revel in the glory of a home win as we take you through the three takeaways from Southampton 2 Watford 1.
