Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 6

Rightly kept the same side that beat Norwich City last time out, but could have made substitutions earlier to kill the game once Saints had the lead. Deserves credit for recent displays though.

Alex McCarthy, Goalkeeper – 5

Not a lot to do overall, but will be disappointed with his poor push out from Longstaff’s long-range shot that could have gone away from danger.

Cedric Soares, Right-Back – 5

Got forward on occasion, but it is when he is defending his own goal that he looks suspect these days. Yan Valery must fancy his chances of a start soon.

Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 6

Three aerial duels and two tackles won, and assisted Ings’ opener with the lofted ball forward.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 6

Decent numbers from this game with just one tackle, four clearances and three blocks to his name.

Ryan Bertrand, Left-Back – 6

An ideal opportunity to score his second goal in a week with an almost identical set-piece move, but somehow headed over from around one yard from goal. May have been offside anyway.
