Kevin Phillips

Saints pulled off quite a coup when they snapped up Phillips for around £4m from Sunderland in 2003.

His spell with Saints was cut short by the club’s relegation to the Championship but he contributed in some important moments with 25 goals in 71 games whilst at St Mary’s.

Saints sold the striker to Aston Villa in 2005, but he would play just 25 times for the Villans before moving on again.

More successful spells in the lower leagues came with West Brom and Blackpool before his retirement in 2014.
