Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 8

Ward-Prowse’s fitness is incredible. Combine that with his tactical awareness, JWP always found himself in the right position.  If you watched the ball you did not see his impact today, other than a late challenge where he cleanly wiped out N’golo Kante.  It was a massive performance by him and his partner, and we will see if he can keep it going against Palace.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Centre-Midfielder – 7

Earned an assist with a timely forward pass to Michael Obafemi.  A couple sloppy giveaways in the first half breaking out of the defensive third, but he cleaned it up in the second.  PEH and JWP are key cogs in the team success, and if they play like this every week, the Saints have a shot.

Nathan Redmond, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Two 1v1 chances in the first half and did nothing with them.  Nearly setup Che Adams with a break early in the second, but missed a glorious chance himself to make it two-nil.  When it counted though, he was johnny-on-the-spot and put it in the back of the net with a deft touch in front of goal.  Maybe this is the game to get his confidence closer to last season’s levels.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 9

Showed his intelligence and creativity from start to finish.  Looked to break on the counter-attack while defending the wing with integrity. Made something out of nothing more than once, setting up Nathan Redmond twice.  Continues to give impactful performances during the Saints good run of form and their is no coincidence between the two.
