Once again, Danny Ings rescued a point for Southampton against a stubborn Crystal Palace side.

Ings’ 12th goal of the league campaign was enough to see the spoils shared at St Mary’s in a feisty encounter where VAR once again reared its head.

Although the hosts recorded the better of the play, Roy Hodgson’s men deserve credit for their tenacity and endeavour in the 1-1 draw. James Tomkins opened the scoring for the away team just after the interval with a well taken header but Ings was able to capitalise on a poor back pass to even the scores.

Both teams will reflect on chances to win the game with Guaita making some superb saves in the Palace goal to deny Saints a third consecutive league win. Palace will also be frustrated with VAR’s controversial decision to rule out an effort from Max Meyer, with the finest of margins sufficient to deem Zaha’s toe offside in the build up.
