Midfielders

Morgan Schneiderlin, Central-Midfielder

Key stat: 257 appearances, 15 goals

The improvements that the Frenchman made when rising up the leagues with Saints saw him become one of the best in the Premier League.

Victor Wanyama is the backup here after providing Saints with great strength for two years.

Dean Hammond, Central-Midfielder

Key stat: 141 appearances, 11 goals

Captain in the two promotion campaigns and could always be found battling away to win the midfield tussles in League One and the Championship.

Jack Cork also showed consistency in the Championship and proved a good squad player in the Premier League before moving on to pastures new.

Dusan Tadic, Attacking-Midfielder

Key stat: 162 appearances, 24 goals and 35 assists

The Serbian hit the ground running in England and became a very important creative force for Saints whilst also weighing in with important goals – even if his levels of performance did drop off in his later years.

James Ward-Prowse and Steven Davis could be in this team somewhere in midfield but fall just below Tadic’s exploits – although the former is on his way to changing that.
