Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 6

The same team once again, which isn’t a problem. However, he should have changed things once Wolves put Jimenez and Traore directly up against Stephens and Bednarek.

Alex McCarthy, Goalkeeper – 5

No real saves of note but beaten by three brutally taken goals.

Cedric Soares, Right-Back – 8

Very, very good. Had the beating of Traore and pushed him back early on and his crosses were accurate – setting up Long’s second goal.

Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 5

A steady game that became more uneasy once Jimenez and Traore were moved directly upfront together.

Could have done more to stop Neto shooting for the first goal and narrowly missed the ball to give away the penalty for the visitors’ second.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 5

Not troubled in the first-half, but a tough second period for him and Stephens.

A lovely finish to open the scoring – just a shame that both his Saints goals have come in games where they have been 2-0 up and gone on to lose 3-2.

Ryan Bertrand, Left-Back – 6

Didn’t get forward as much as he would have liked but still covered a very decent amount of ground.
