Cedric Soares

Perhaps not the first name that you would expect to be praised following a calamitous defeat but Cedric was superb against Wolves and coped well against Traore in the first half. Although the centre back pairing of Bednarek and Stephens struggled against the Spanish attacker following the shift in tactics, Cedric coped well with the threat in the opening 45 minutes and even managed to get forward himself.

His marauding runs into Wolverhampton territory were a constant nuisance and his cross for Long’s long overdue goal was impressive. Given his recent improvement in performances and his interview with the Daily Echo this week, don’t be surprised if this season is not the Portuguese right back’s last at St Mary’s.
