Midfielders

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Centre-Midfielder – 9

Amidst the speculation the Danish captain is headed to Everton, he still had time to put in a solid performance for Saints.  Excellent off the ball in closing down space to cut out Tottenham possession.  Made the through pass to Ings which led to the Southampton goal.  Alongside JWP one of the best partnerships in the Premier League right now.

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 8

Cannot believe this guy can keep running.  Has played every minute of every Southampton game this season.  Cleaned up second balls like a pro today as an invaluable asset to the team.

Nathan Redmond, Attacking-Midfielder – 8

Looked completely up for the game from the start and that is when he is his best. Took on defenders and had more than one 25 yard dribbles in the first half.  Looked like he lost his legs late with a ton of space on the right side.  Just needed to add that finishing pass, but he did put one of Ings’ head which should have tallied an assist.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Very involved from the start, creating chances for the Saints down the right hand side.  Got into the box once with possession and smashed the ball of a Spurs defender’s face.  Looked to have limped off with a worrying hamstring problem at the end of the first half.
