Midfielders

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Centre-Midfielder – 7

Highlight of the first half was a well-timed press, winning the ball off of Oxlade-Chamberlain before taking an impromptu strike.  Almost combined with Danny Ings for a goal but struck it off of Joe Gomez.

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 6

A quiet first half protecting the back four.  Did not have much of the ball, and gave up a foul in free kick territory.  The foul may not have even occurred had Kevin Friend not impeded his path to the ball.  Did not do much wrong though and will probably return to the bench if Yan Valery or Kyle Walker-Peters are ready Wednesday.

Nathan Redmond, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Was given two open looks on target in the first half, but both missed the frame.  Was picking off his striker’s second balls and just missed that finishing touch.  Started with confidence, but faded as the game went on.  It is hard to find a player who is as dependent on his mentality as Redmond and today was not his best.

Moussa Djenepo, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Worked really well off the ball in the first half, with a tactical foul and a few well-timed tackles.  Tried to create on the ball, but not much came off against a high quality defence.  A good left-footed strike on target was his memorable moment, but there is a lot to like about his future.
