Saints concede four but go down fighting at the home of the soon to be champions.

To the casual observer the score line of Liverpool 4-0 Southampton, will look like a rather straightforward, one-sided affair. One look at the Saints goal difference of -15 would only confirm this assumption.

The match however was anything but one-sided and despite the lopsided score line the red and white can take heart from their efforts.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men took the game to the Liverpudlian’s and could easily have found themselves in front before the break. Unlike in previous encounters with premier league big guns Southampton did not stand off their opponents but instead opted to go on the attack.

Danny Ings and Shane Long proved to be a considerable threat upfront while the likes of Moussa Djenepo were comfortable in possession and a solid creator.

A half time break, and a controversial decision later the tide turned.

Here are the three key moments that affected the course of Liverpool 4 Southampton 0.
