Southampton underwhelmed as they fall to Burnley two goals to one.

The weather was horrendous at St Mary’s and the football wasn’t a whole lot better. Saints conceded the opener after just two minutes direct from a corner, which put them on the back foot right from the off.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men equalized with a cracker from Danny Ings, but the side struggled to consistently find their top gear.

The South coast side have picked up some positive results in recent months and have almost secured their place in the Premier League. An uptick in performance levels had appeared to set the table for a strong top half finish, but this latest effort highlights one of, if not the biggest issue the club faces. Namely, consistency or in SFC’s case the lack thereof.

The red and white sway between high-energy, assured, and smart football away from home to, tentative, mistake prone, and lacking dynamism on their own patch.

The score may be a poor one, but there’s far more to consider than just the loss of three points.
