Kevin Keegan

Saints shocked the world in 1980 when they signed Keegan – reigning European Footballer of the Year/Ballon D’or winner – from German side Hamburg in complete secrecy.

He stayed on the South Coast for two years and scored 42 goals in 80 games before moving on to Newcastle United.

He took up management after retiring from playing, and his first job was back at St James’ Park with the Magpies.

This was by far the most successful spell of his managerial career too as he took a highly talented group of players very close to the Premier League title in 1996.
