Strikers and Substitutes

Danny Ings, Striker – 7

Saints fans didn’t get to see their star striker in and around the box much today as he filled in on the left wing after Djenepo’s red card.

Did more than a good job for the team there though.

Shane Long, Striker – 8

Ran, and ran, and ran, and ran – until he seemed to tweak his hamstring and had to be replaced by Che Adams.

Had perhaps Saints’ best chance of the day too when he turned his marker on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area and volleyed powerfully on target to force Dubravka into a good save.

Che Adams, 1st Substitute – 5

Saints fans still have time for him but he needed to match the work-rate of Long much closer after replacing the Irishman.

Michael Obafemi, 2nd Substitute – 5

A couple of chances to keep possession in and around the box wasted late on.
