According to multiple reports Southampton have been put up for sale for the price of £250m for Gao’s stake that he purchased a few years ago.

The rumors have been circulating for some time now that he was interested in selling the club but now it seems official even though the club is not technically listed for sale.

Gao has invited in a broker to source a potential buyer for the Saints. Although they are not explicitly shopping themselves they have said they are always open to new investments so we will have to see where this takes us.

Gao’s approach to owning the team has raised some eyebrows from supporters and called to attention his commitment to the club. I think with the team bouncing back and looking to be on an upswing it would be a good as time as any for Gao to get out and let someone else take over.

It has become clear he is not really interested in the success of the team and probably just purchased them for the prestige of owning a Premier League Club.

We have all read the quotes about how the club are not a pig to be fattened and he wants them to be self-sustaining and if he is not willing to pump some sort of money into the club this will be a good chance to recoup his money (and then some) and walk away.
