Southampton: Saints have been following goalkeeper Marco Silvestri
The Hellas Verona keeper has been having a great season for the newly promoted club and has caught the eye of Southampton.
This season, the Serie A keeper has only conceded 26 goals in his 25 appearances for the club and 9 of those matches have been cleansheets. Southampton, have been keeping an eye on the keeper.
Silvestri, is 29 years of age which is a little older than the type of player Southampton has recently gone for but sometimes you do need age and leadership on the pitch. Especially, when it comes to the position of goalkeeper.
Southampton are not the only club that have been following the keeper, Norwich are also interested in him as well. The transfer may be difficult to pull off because Hellas Verona believe the player is a key cog in their team.
Because of this, the teams may need to pay a little more or even offer a player up to get the transfer over the line.
The goalkeeper position has been a bit of a question mark for the club over the past couple seasons and it should not be surprising the Saints have been linked with another keeper. I believe Gunn is the future of the position at the club but that may mean they need to sell McCarthy and they club would probably like to have an experienced back up behind the young goalkeeper.
With a great season he may be hard to convince to take a back seat and we would likely have to either give it to him and ship off Gunn as well or convince him to be a back-up.
