Saints 4-0 Coventry City, 28th April 2012, Championship

For all who were there or watching via the BBC’s live coverage, this was one of the most memorable moments in recent history for Saints fans.

The Championship title had already gone, but a positive result against already relegated Coventry City would confirm promotion to the Premier League – and that’s what happened.

Billy Sharp flicked home to get Nigel Adkins’ side on their way after 16 minutes, and then Jose Fonte’s diving header just three minutes later gave the hosts a comfortable lead.

Fonte’s defensive partner Jos Hooiveld bundled home from a corner to make it 3-0 in the second-half, and the party really started at St Mary’s when Adam Lallana hooked home a fourth.

In the superb rise that Saints made between 2011 and 2016, this was perhaps the most important – a return to where Saints fans felt their club belong.

Saints team: Kelvin Davis, Danny Butterfield, Jose Fonte, Jos Hooiveld, Danny Fox, Morgan Schneiderlin, Dean Hammond (Jack Cork), Guly Do Prado, Adam Lallana (Jason Puncheon), Rickie Lambert, Billy Sharp (Steve De Ridder)
