What else is there to say about Southampton’s striker? It is a shame the season had to be suspended when he was playing so well.

Ings, had 18 goals on the season in all competitions when the season came to a grinding halt. 15 of those goals came in the Premier League and he was the first Southampton player to have over double digit goals for the first time since the 15/16 season.

He had a brilliant stretch where he scored 13 goals in 16 matches and it was something that has been sorely missed by Saints supporters.

For the past few seasons the story has been not only a lack of scoring but just simply not converting our big chances. That changed this season with Ings who was able to score at will and make defenders look silly with his pressing.

He is a tireless worker and has shown how much hustling can pay off. I think back to the goal he scored when he caught Lloris being too casual in possession with the ball and just poked it in from about a yard away.

His season was highlighted by goals like these but he was also capable of scoring goals any striker would be proud of.

It is a nice feeling knowing we have a quality striker now. Ings, is right at home on the south coast and when football resumes we have to believe his goal scoring will as well. It will be fun going forward to see just how many goals he can score for the Saints!
