Southampton face some stiff competition for the defenders signature this summer but believe they are leading the race currently.

Axel Disasi is a wanted man. Not only by our Southampton but also by Arsenal and Tottenham. The 22-year-old will likely cost the club around £13m from Reims but that may be a steal for the type of talent this player has.

He was one of the best defenders in a defense that conceded the least amount of goals in the French League and caught the eye of a lot of clubs.

He is exactly the type of player anyone would want to for Centre-Back. He is 6ft 3in tall and has the pace to keep up with the competition in the Premier League.

At 22-years-of-age he fits exactly what Hasenhuttl wants in a player so it is no wonder he wants to bring him in. What gives Southampton the edge in the race to sign the defender is they have a need for a defender and a reputation to develop youngsters.

The other clubs have established defenders and also focusing their budgets elsewhere. For all those reasons the Saints are confident they can win the race for the youngster.

I believe he would be a great fit for the team and we could get him with the money we recoup from selling players this window.

It is not often we beat clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal for a player so hopefully we get to see it happen this summer.
