Wimbledon 0-2 Saints, 8th May 1999

A day that will always be a famous one for Saints fans.

Facing one of their rivals at the bottom of the Premier League table, Saints knew that a win was vital to help them to another escape from relegation – they had only moved out of the drop zone for the first time the previous weekend.

They were backed by tremendous support from travelling support at Selhurst Park and this pushed them on to a crucial win.

The heroes on the day were James Beattie and Matt Le Tissier – the former heading home the latter’s free-kick delivery with around 20 minutes remaining, before Le Tissier himself scored direct from a corner.

Saints team: Paul Jones, Jason Dodd, Claus Lundekvam, Ken Monkou, Francis Benali, David Hughes, (Matt Le Tissier), Hassan Kachloul (Scott Hiley), Chris Marsden (John Beresford), Marians Pahars, Mark Hughes, James Beattie
