The full-back has made it clear he wanted to stay at Southampton, at least until the season is over, to prove himself a quality player.

With the league set to resume play in the middle of June, players are getting anxious to get back out there and start playing again. For the young right-back on loan from Tottenham, these final matches are a chance for him to prove he is a Premier League quality defender and force Saints to make a permanent move for him.

If given the chance, I believe Walker-Peters could play himself into the Saints plans for the upcoming season. If so, Southampton will have to start negotiations for the player and that is where, unfortunately, Hojbjerg could become involved.

It is no secret other teams are interested in our captain and it is also looking like the player himself wants to move onto a bigger club that competes for the title and European football.

Likely, it would take KWP and a fee to take Hojbjerg off of us. As much as it would hurt to see our captain leave, if he is going to leave it is better we get something for him than nothing at all. He has been a loyal servant over the past few seasons and I do not think anyone could hold a grudge against him for wanting to leave.

He has had to fight through some very tough seasons and gave us everything he had. I think most supporters will look back on Hojbjerg’s time on the south coast fondly and with no anger. But only time will tell what happens nothing is done until the ink hits the paper.
