Academy must (will) be given a chance

There isn’t much doubt that Ralph Hasenhuttl will give Saints youngsters a chance if he sees they are ready for senior action.

Will Smallbone and Jake Vokins are just two names who have come through in his tenure so far and who should go on to have bigger impacts beyond this season.

Making use of the Saints academy has many advantages. One is, of course, that any talented players will improve the team.

If expensive players cannot be bought by the club for a while too, cheaper and potentially equally able alternatives can be plucked from the Saints youth teams.

Players who then do so well that they attract interest from other clubs can also generate money for Saints and help them reinvest for a charge up the Premier League table.
