Southampton: Saints take on Bristol City behind closed doors
In the build-up to the season restart, Southampton played a friendly against Bristol City and won 3-2 at St. Mary’s on Friday.
In a game that was split up into three 45 minute sections, the Saints made their presence known almost immediately with Stuart Armstrong scoring 2 within the first 6 minutes of the match.
That lead however, quickly disappeared as Bristol City scored 2 in quick secession all in the first 45 minutes of play. Right before the whistle blew to call to an end the first leg of the match, Ings scores to put the Saints up for good as no other goals would be scored for the remainder of the match.
It is worth noting, Angus Gunn did save a penalty that would have leveled the match and his effort kept the Saints on top of their opponents.
It was likely not the cleanest of matches, as both sides have not played competitively for some time, but it sounds like it had end-to-end action and there were some positives to take away from it. It is good to see Ings just keeps on scoring no matter what you throw at him.
Stuart Armstrong will be a key part to the success of the club the remainder of the season. And it appears James Ward-Prowse will have the captain’s armband the rest of the season as he was wearing it today even with Hojbjerg on the pitch.
Hopefully, there is not much drama with the Hojbjerg transfer saga this summer but that can wait for another day. I am sure we are all excited to see Southampton play in the Prem again real soon.
