Southampton: James Ward-Prowse will captain team rest of the season
It has been confirmed that James Ward-Prowse will now be the captain of Southampton as it has been taken away from Hojbjerg.
In a move that most supporters were anticipating, Hasenhuttl has named the Englishman the captain from here on out as Hojbjerg appears to be leaving the club.
Ralph, made it clear that a player who had a contract expiring and had not signed a new deal could not be captain of the club. So, we all knew it was likely we would not see Hojbjerg with the armband on again but the question was who was going to replace him?
I think most everyone assumed it would be Ward-Prowse but there were a few other candidates that would not have been a shocker if they were named. Among those would have been Danny Ings, Jack Stephens, or Ryan Bertrand. All leaders in their own right but the academy graduate was the obvious choice.
I look forward to seeing Ward-Prowse lead the club in the remaining games of the season. He has earned this title and will obviously wear it with pride. The Saints restart their season this coming Friday and it a chance to prove to everyone that are going to fight and finish as high up on the table as possible.
Norwich is a prime opportunity to get 3 points but they cannot look past them because Norwich are fighting for their Premier League lives and will not just roll over and let Southampton. They will need to come out and play their best if they want to win and get off on the right foot.
