Southampton: Cedric Agrees to a permanent deal with Arsenal
The full-back left Southampton on-loan to Arsenal back in January and has now agreed to a new 4-year-deal with the Gunners.
Cedric’s time at Southampton had its positives and negatives. There were times when he looked to have a bright future ahead of him and considered to be the next big attacking full-back. And other times he left you scratching your head asking if he has ever played the position before.
He technically signed on a free transfer but Southampton did manage to get £5m out of Arsenal for a loan fee so not all is lost. For the Saints it was widely considered a good bit of business for the club as the player was going to leave for free in the summer.
There are many questions surrounding the future of the right-back position for Saints and it seems like Hasenhuttl is trying nearly everything to figure it out. Valery, was not convincing in the match on Friday and I have to believe Walker-Peters will be the one starting on Thursday.
I do not think anyone would be surprised if the club brings in one or even two new right-backs in the summer as the issue needs to be resolved.
The backline has improved over the course of the season but it is still not up to standard. If they club wants to compete for Europa spots and in League Cups they will need to improve the defense.
The Saints take on Cedric and Arsenal tomorrow in what should be an exciting match.
