Southampton are in the middle of a rebuilding process under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and it may take two or three years to turn things around once again.

The club will need to clear out any players who do not have a future at St Mary’s and bring in players that the Austrian wants to work with to start things moving in the right direction once again.

Another key signal of intent from the club is handing out new deals to key men in the process too. Hasenhuttl himself has signed for the next four years, Shane Long and Will Smallbone have inked new terms and new team captain James Ward-Prowse is in discussions with the club over a new contract too.

However, no less than six Saints players have contracts that will be into their final year once we move into July.

Players can negotiate with other clubs when their deal only has 12 months remaining, so it will be vital for Saints to secure the men they want to remain on the South Coast.
