Southampton continue their great season away from St. Mary’s as they beat Watford on Sunday 1-3 and Ings bags a brace and JWP bangs one home.
Southampton, reach the magic number of 40 points on the season and now it looks like relegation is out of the question for good this season. Danny Ings, now holds second place in the golden boot race and has a legitimate shot at being the first Saint to take home the award.
It was a great team effort on Sunday and three players really stood out the most as the Saints marched to victory.
Danny Ings
I think we are all running out of words on how to describe the season Ingsy is having. 18 Premier League goals this season and counting. He was brilliant again and I shudder to think where we would be without him this year.
Both of his goals were a result of his hard-work and class finishing. How many times have we seen him this season cut in from the left and find the far right-corner with a curling shot? That goal now ties him with Kylian Mbappe of PSG for most goals without a penalty in Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Hopefully, we see a Saint take home the golden boot this year and I think no one is more deserving of that than Danny Ings.
James Ward-Prowse
The Captain had himself another solid performance on Sunday and really is the glue that holds this team together on both sides of the ball. And of course, how could we talk about JWP and not mention that free kick.
He has shown once again why he is one of the mostly deadly players in the world when it comes to set-pieces and put the match to bed for the Saints.
He is going to be such an important piece in the coming seasons and I think he still has so much more growth in him he will become a real star under Hasenhuttl
Jannik Vestergaard
The Dane had to step into the starting lineup due to the red card that Stephens picked up in the Arsenal match. He took this opportunity and proved to everyone that there is a quality player there. He absolutely dominated in the air and looked as confident as ever.
If he continues to play like that the rest of the season he is going to give Hasenhuttl and the club something to think about when it comes to selling him.
Sadly, I believe no matter how well he plays he will likely be sold in the summer transfer window but it will be nice to watch him play like he did Sunday for the remainder of the season. The club reached their goal of 40 points but I doubt they want to stop there. We will see some good matches out of the Saints in their remaining 6 matches.
