People had been speculating that Fraser Forster would get a shot again at being Southampton’s keeper and now it appears to be true.

The one-time Saints number 1 fell out of favour at Southampton and spent the last season on-loan at Celtic.

In the Scottish League, he impressed and the club were desperate to retain the keeper but now he will get a shot at being Premier League keeper once again. This is welcoming news to fans as Forster was a fan favourite at one point when he was playing very well.

Then the keeper hit a spell of poor form and it seemed to unravel for the once great goalie. It will like be McCarthy who stands in his way for the number one shirt in the upcoming season.

That means youngster Angus Gunn will likely go out on-loan the next season. Ever since that match against Leicester his chances have been limited and it will be good for him to go to another team for a season and get some game experience under his belt.

Next. Saints’ first offer for talented defender rejected. dark

I would have to expect a Championship side would be interested in Gunn as he does have talent, he was just on the wrong side of a very unfortunate match.

As much as the Southampton’s defense gets a lot of attention (and rightly so) the goalkeeper position has also been poor for the Saints over the past couple of seasons. It will be good to see some competition for the spot going into the season as it will likely make both players better.

A little friendly competition never hurt anybody!
