Strikers and Substitutes

Danny Ings, Striker – 9

His quality and fitness continues to impress.  Maybe should have taken his first chance, but was so good without the ball today and on both sides of it.  Is it weird to say he may have put in the best 90 minutes of the season without scoring?  Making blocks in his own box during stoppage time, he is turning into Southampton’s hero.

Che Adams, Striker  – 8

The wait is finally over!  What a memorable first goal for a guy every Saints fan wants desperately to succeed.  Maybe should have done better with his first opportunity, but who cares.  Hopefully he has leap-frogged Obafemi and he will have earned his run out for the remainder of the season.  Looked like he ran out of gas in what nearly could have been a second chance in front of Ederson as was subbed out shortly after.

Shane Long, Substitute Striker – 7

Joined the Saints in the 70th minute to help run out the game.  Pitched in his part winning head balls and pressuring the City back line.  If we are being critical, he could have eaten up a few more seconds, but he played his role.

Will Smallbone, Substitute Attacking-Midfielder – N/A

Entered for the final kick of the game as one of Hasenhuttl’s two substitutions used.
