The Definition of In-Form – Danny Ings

Another match, another addition to the goal tally, and that marks 19 for the Southampton striker in the Premier League.  The goal today was just a brilliant moment of quality.  How he pulled the ball behind him on his right side and dragged it across Jordan Pickford for the left-footed tap-in was superb.  He clearly didn’t expect the pass from Armstrong, looked like he was setting up for a rebound and still adjusted to the play.  Danny Ings is an incredible player, possibly playing at his highest level, and if there is another gear the Premier League will have a new golden boot winner!

Yes, Ings is a proven goal scorer at this point, but he does so much more for the team.  He intelligently presses, holds the ball up in difficult positions and looks to set his teammates up as well.  He chipped the ball across to Che Adams prior to Stuart Armstrong’s disallowed goal, and set up James Ward-Prowse with a first time strike atop the penalty area.  It may have also gone missed, but he nailed Shane Long on a diaganol from 30 yards while taking a position out on the wing.  It is very hard to find a fault in his game right now and when he is doing that with a smile on and in a red and white shirt, he keeps his fanbase buzzing.
