Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders
Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8
An unchanged side is no surprise given how Saints have been playing recently. Importantly he kept faith with his tactics despite United looking a threat on the counter and his decision to send on Michael Obafemi won the game.
Alex McCarthy, Goalkeeper – 7
An excellent early save to deny Martial after Ward-Prowse surrendered possession – just one of two saves he had to make. No chance with the goals and good distribution.
Kyle Walker-Peters, Right-Back – 6
Both goals came from his side, and he could have done better individually on both occasions. However, anyone would struggle against the players United have in attack and it is up to Saints to cut out the play to stop him and the other defenders being exposed one-on-one.
His ability going forward continues to be crucial to Saints at the moment though and his influence grew into the second half.
Jack Stephens, Centre-Back – 7
A quieter evening than his partner at the back but his place in the side looks in no danger at all.
Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 8
Calm and composed at the back – 85% passing accuracy and six clearances. Then rose highest to meet a corner and assist Obafemi’s late leveller.
Ryan Bertrand, Left-Back – 7
Great challenge to deny Rashford from point-blank range in the second-half. Broke forward a lot more in the second-half and provided an outlet when Saints were looking for that late equaliser.
Forced Greenwood to have a quiet night after much talk about the teenager in the build-up.
