Three Is a Magic Number for Danny Ings

Danny Ings’ equalizer not only rescued his side from defeat, but in so doing brought about an historic club milestone. With his 20th goal of the Premier League season he becomes only the third Southampton player to reach the mark.

James Beattie was the last person to achieve this feat, in 2002/03. The Saints legend notch 23, making him the club’s second-highest scorer in the EPL. No prizes for guessing who’s top of the list.

Matt Le Tissier reigns supreme at the top with an impressive 25 strikes. The club behemoth set the standard back in 1993/94.

A Saints representative has never claimed the Golden boot and if Ings is to break that duck he has plenty of work to do. Jamie Vardy currently sits top of the tree three goals in front of his rival.

The red and white number nine will have to grab a hatful against final opponents Bournemouth and Sheffield United respectively. A tall task perhaps, but with Denny’s red-hot form this season anything is possible.
