Che Adams finds double delight as Southampton prevail over Sheffield United 3-1.

Saints saw the season off in style as Adams netted his second goal in seven days. Danny Ings finished the evening’s work with his 22nd goal of the Premier League term.

The result sees SFC finish their campaign in 11th Place with 52 points. That is the club’s highest total since 2015/16.

The Hampshire outfit have finished the season strongly having only lost once in nine games. Furthermore, the team has scored in all bar one of those outings.

A tweet from Athletic journalist Carl Anka succinctly sums up Southampton’s Jekyll and Hyde form. Anka stated:

“-3rd in “Project Restart” league table

– 3rd in the Away form table

– 19th for Home form..”.

With no significant league placement to play for you would be forgiven for expecting a dull contest at Saint Mary’s. Fortunately, both sides opted to give it a go and battle for the points.

The Blades opened the scoring, capitalizing on some loose defending by their opponents.

As the ball arrives in the box Jannik Vestergaard attempts to divert the ball but can’t get the significant touch. Instead the ball squirts to John Lundstram who makes no mistake, powering the ball past Alex McCarthy.

As is becoming increasingly common these days, Southampton rallied to change the course of the result. Nathan Redmond deserves particular praise for his high-energy attacking threat in the first half.

As others struggled to impose themselves in the first 45, the number 22 drove forward while showing nice foot work on more than one occasion. Redmond’s best moment came as he evaded the intentions of the defenders, neatly running the ball along the byline.

The Englishman couldn’t find the incisive pass, but nevertheless deserves an honourable mention for his effort.

With that having been said, here are the three key players who impacted the course of Southampton 3 Sheffield United 1.
