Southampton are in talks with Schalke for Weston McKennie but will need to sell fringe players in order to raise funds for the midfielder.

The deal for the young American would likely be around £20m and in order for the club to be able to afford that price tag they will need to sell some of the players they had out on-loan last season.

This mainly includes Mario Lemina, Wesley Hoedt, and Guido Carrillo. For Lemina, it appears he will go to Galatasaray in the Turkish league. The two clubs are currently in talks for a permanent deal there. The Saints will likely get less than what they originally paid for him but at this point it is just about getting anything back and his wages off the books.

Hoedt, is likely to return to the Dutch league and sign with one of the top sides there just the deal needs to go through. As for Carrillo, it is rumoured that Pellegrino wants to sign him yet again at his new club. Hopefully, Southampton can get these deals done quickly so their talks with Schalke do not stall out.

The only reason the Saints are in this position to get McKennie now is because his talks with Hertha Berlin fell through a few days ago. This is a chance for the club to sign a youngster who has a ton of potential and I think they would be thoughtless if they did not capitalize on this opportunity.

As always, we will keep you updated on the Saints FC transfer rumours we hear I the build up to next season.
