Young Player of the Season

There were just a few young players who made an imprint on the Saints first-team last season but I think this award has to go to Will Smallbone.

The Republic of Ireland youth international made 10 appearances at senior level but there were a number of really promising traits that came to the fore from his play.

His ability on the ball looks to be so natural and this leads to excellent technique when shooting or passing, whilst his naturally slight frame gives him deceptive agility when on the move.

It was interesting to read recently that Saints want to bulk him up, but I think they have got to be careful with that in order to keep his best attributes at the same level.
