Underrated Player of the Season

There are a few candidates for this award too – honourable mentions must go to Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Bertrand and Jack Stephens.

However, I am going to go for Jan Bednarek, who continues to grow as a player at St Mary’s.

I have lost count of the number of times the Poland international has got his side out of trouble with a last-ditch tackle or a flying block and this really shows an incredible trait for a defender – being in exactly the right place when the team need him to be.

If you look at his performances from a statistical point too, Bednarek ranks within the top 20 of all Premier League players (2019/20) in interceptions, clearances, aerial duels won and blocks.
