Southampton took on Swansea in two 60 minute matches behind closed doors and ended up winning comfortably, 7-1 against the Championship side.

The first side that Hasenhuttl trotted out for Southampton was one that supporters are very familiar with. It was the typical 4-2-2-2 formation with McCarthy, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Stephens, Bertrand, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Redmond, Ings, and Adams.

This was the lineup that enjoyed all 7 goals with 5 different Saints finding the back of the net. Che Adams opened the scoring just minutes into the match and Swansea could do very little to stop the Saints after that.

Redmond, and Bertrand both added goals to the scoreline while Ings and Ward-Prowse each had a brace. Ings and Ward-Prowse each converted a penalty as well so that will be something to keep an eye on this coming season.

It was an action-packed first 60 minutes of the match and the Saints should feel good about it going into the rest of the preseason and into the regular season.

The second 60 was much less eventful and featured the following lineup for the first 30 mins. Forster started in net along with Valery, Vestergaard, Klarer, Vokins, Slattery, Smallbone, Djenepo, Boufal, Obafemi, and Long.

It was a cagey affair with chances coming few and far between and no goals came in the third period of 30 mins.

Going into the final stage of the match there was only one change made for Saints with Jankewitz coming on for Slattery. It was another uneventful period of play with Southampton failing to find the back of the net again and Swansea getting a consolation goal.

Not being able to watch makes it tough to break down but anytime your squad manages to net 7 against a decent opponent means something must be working. This will only set expectations amongst fans higher so the importance of starting the season off well is paramount.

The season will be upon us before we know it and I think I speak for all of us when I say we cannot wait for this season to start.
