Southampton have been linked with Olivier Ntcham from Celtic over the past few weeks as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Now a report from the Glasgow Times, has said that the club is no longer interested in the player and will pursue someone else to replace the ex-captain.

If this report is true, it could be disheartening for many Saints fans as they have been waiting patiently for a new centre-midfielder to be signed having already missed out on McKennie and now potentially Ntcham.

The player is apparently linked with Lyon and Porto now, two clubs that have played European football the past season.

Southampton still have Ward-Prowse and Romeu who can hold down the midfield but the club will be very thin at that position and could not afford an injury to either player if a new player is not signed this summer.

I have to imagine the club has another target identified and will start making moves for that player here soon. The season is now under two-weeks away and Hasenhuttl will want to get them integrated with the club and the system as soon as possible.

The will need to meet the high fitness standards Ralph holds for all of his players and that takes time. Whoever is brought in at the end of the day (if anyone) will probably take a month or so to be ready to play Premier League football for the club.

The transfer window is an exciting time for everyone but it is getting closer and closer to crunch time and a deal will need to get done sooner rather than later. Let us hope they get something done soon.
