Southampton: Wesley Hoedt wanted by a number of Belgian clubs
The out-of-favour Southampton defender spent the last season on loan and it looks like he will be spending this upcoming one on loan as well.
According to a new report, that you can read here, there are four clubs in Belgium that would like to get their hand on Hoedt this season. The four clubs are Anderlecht, Antwerp, Gent, and Club Brugge. All of them are competitive clubs in the Belgian league and the player should be excited to join.
It is looking like it will be another loan deal for the player which will disappoint fans because the feeling is they just want to move on from the player. Fortunately, this means his wages will at least be off the books for this coming year and we will not be paying a player to not even make the squad.
Hoedt, has been a player the club has been trying to sell for over 2 years now and a deal just has not been able to stick. But with the season just a few days away the Saints need to finish up their transfer business as soon as possible so they can focus solely on playing football.
If there is a loan deal, one can hope the club will add on a clause that will make the club obligated to buy the player at the end of the season.
The defender was simply not Premier League quality but he should be good enough for a club in a league like the Belgian league to want to purchase him and make his stay permanent.
The issue could be the player and the agent believe he is too good for those clubs and they believe he should be in one of the bigger leagues in Europe. Either way, I hope the club can find a way to rid themselves of Hoedt and just move on.
Southampton’s season starts on Saturday and everyone is buzzing to see what the Saints can do this season.
