Strikers and Substitutes

Danny Ings, Striker – 6

Maybe one opportunity in the first 45 minutes and that is generous.  When you control possession and you cannot find your best player, it’s an issue.  A chance to tie it at the death, but his flash header went right at the keeper.  Palace need to get some credit for denying Ings to gain possession and hopefully Saints figure out how to circumvent these tactics in the future.

Che Adams, Striker – 7

Not a lot to talk about in the first half as Southampton struggled to get the ball forward.  Drilled a second half volley direct at the keeper which could have opened Saints’ scoring.  Battled in the penalty box and appears far more comfortable than a year ago.

Jannik Vestergaard, Substitute Centre-Back – 8

Entered at half in a tactical switch for Jan Bednarek in order to insert some deep passing out of the back.  On cue his Walker-Peters twice to create Southampton chances out of the break. Won a set piece header and set up Che Adams for a quality strike.  Defended really well and saved a couple late breaks for Palace which would have ended the game early.

Moussa Djenepo, Substitute Attacking-Mid – N/A

Given 15 minutes plus to make an impact.

Shane Long, Substitute Striker – N/A

Only had 5 minutes and stoppage time to get a run out.
