Southampton 2-5 Spurs: A tactical and statistical review of Saints’ loss

Southampton suffered a third straight loss at the start of the 2020/21 season after a heavy 5-2 loss to Spurs on Sunday.

Saints looked on top for much of the first-half and went ahead through talisman Danny Ings, but a goal on the stroke of half-time from Son Hueng-Min changed the course of the game.

Spurs went on to take Saints apart after the break and showed just how vulnerable a high defensive line can be against a strong team and excellent attacking players.

Son added three more goals to end the afternoon with four and the match ball, whilst Harry Kane got in on the act with a tap-in late on.

Ings claimed a second for himself with a stoppage-time penalty but it proved to only make the scoreline slightly less embarrassing for Saints fans.
